If you follow my blog you may have read about the Fizzing Fun activity which is still a big hit with the kids. March break we had “Glow in the Dark” week. I highly recommend getting a black light and trying out some of the awesome glowing activities from Fun At Home With Kids.
We’ve made foaming glow water before but I thought that we could try a Glowing Fizzing Fun.
Pictures taken by my dinky camera just don’t do justice to the glow. The baking soda glowed bright white and the vinegar was glowing greeny-yellow. It looked awesome.
To do this at home you’ll need:
A black light
Highlighters
Water
Baking Soda
Vinegar
Droppers
A tray or bucket
Pop the end off a yellow highlighter and place the dye sponge in a pitcher 1/3 filled with warm water. Soak it for a bit, then cut the plastic off and soak the cotton in the water and squeeze to remove all the ink. Add vinegar until the pitcher is full. You want about 2/3 vinegar 1/3 water.
Take a large tray or bucket and cover the bottom with a layer of baking soda. Place the glow water in separate containers, preferable ones that are easy to use the droppers in. Turn off the lights and turn on the black light and use the droppers to squirt the glowing water/vinegar solution onto the baking soda and watch it fizz. It glows the best if you’re able to hold the black light over the tray. The kids thought this was the best glowing activity next to glow stick hide and seek.
